The "Sultan of Swat" was known thoughout his life as a free-wheeling spender with a magnanimous heart. Always in public demand, Ruth would always make time for children and hospital visits. Ever generous, it is almost an oddity that this contribution amounted to only 50 cents. Perhaps it was all he had in his pocket at the time or maybe it was the standard contribution asked for by the hospital. Almost certain is that Ruth gave more on other occasions to the hospital. The card reads, "I have contributed .50 towards the Norwalk Baby Hospital May 12th 1:30pm". Handwritten in pencil are ".50", "May 12th" and "1:30pm". On the back side is Ruth's pencil signature. The signature rates a 7. The pink card has a pink tag string and is in good condition.
