This Babe-signed check, as with any document of Ruth's dealing with money, is symbolic of the fact that Ruth's influence wasn't only in how the game was played on the field but how it boomed financially during his career, opening the money spigot for at least a few elite players, with Ruth's salary of $80,000 topping them all. Dated May 14, 1936, the $94.04 check to Jack Aaron was drawn on a Chemical Bank account at 73rd & Broadway, the same location as Ruth's Ansonia Hotel apartment. Ruth's flamboyant handwriting is evident in every word he wrote and of course in his signature, "G.H. Ruth" at the bottom in blue fountain pen which rates a near 10. The green-tinted check is in near pristine condition.
