This photo from an original negative is a riveting depiction of the great Yankee slugger. Mantle is seen in uniform in a batting pose, from torso up, looking straight into the camera with his eyes partially hidden by the shadow of his cap bill. While pitchers surely felt those eyes burning a hole in them from the batter's box, few others ever saw that kind of intensity from the humble Mantle, and it is intensified here by the stark simplicity of the photo and its black & white tones. Mantle signed his name and "No. 7" against the white backdrop in black marker, and the signature rates a near perfect 10. The excellent condition 15-1/2" x 20" photo is mounted under glass in a black frame.
