This beautifully mounted and framed team photograph of the world champion 1916 Boston Red Sox will make long-suffering Bosox rooters play a game of what if. What if Babe Ruth in the front row, had not been traded to the Yankees four years later by owner Harry Frazee for $100,000? That infamous trade has been the monkey on the team's back for over 80 years of frustration after the young Bambino helped deliver three championships in four years from 1915-1918. In 1916, when the team went 91-61 and beat the Brooklyn Robins in a five-game World Series, the 21-year-old Ruth was still primarily a pitcher, and rang up a 23-12 record and 1.75 ERA (while also hitting .272 with 3 homers, tying for the team lead). Ruth was then in the middle of his WS string of 29 scoreless innings. The 10' x 15' sepia-toned photo includes other star Sox such as fellow HOFer Herb Pennock, Dutch Leonard, Ernie Shore, Carl Mays, Harry Hooper and Everett Scott. This excellent condition photo is mounted under glass against a beige background in a brown wood frame. The upper left corner has a small tear that appears to have been repaired.
