Under skinflint owner-manager Connie Mack, the Philadelphia Athletics' dynasty had gone dry in the 1920s until Mack again built a powerhouse team that vaulted ahead of the Yankees the last year of the decade and captured three straight pennants and two titles. The 1929 team was powered by four other future Hall of Famers, sluggers Al Simmons, Jimmie Foxx and Mickey Cochrane (who all hit over .300) and pitcher Lefty Grove, who went 20 and 6. After taking the AL flag by 18 games, the A's roared into the world Series and did away with the Chicago Cubs in five games. This beautifully matted and framed team panorama from that season is sepia-toned and in near pristine condition, showing the assembled champs in crisp and clear detail, standing as ramrod-straight as "Mr.Mack" in his usual dark suit in the middle of the line. The 7" x 29" image is bordered by a subtle grayish-brown area and framed to an overall size of 13" x 36." All in all, a wonderfully preserved piece of baseball history.
