First ballot Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. The 15-time All-Star won two World Series championships and was a World Series MVP and regular season MVP. The four-time National League batting champion was a 12-time Gold Glove Award winner and his No. 21 is retired by the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise. Inside the shell is the “American Baseball Cap” manufacturer’s label size “7 1/8” which is correct for Clemente as he wore his hat underneath his helmet. Handwritten on the inside pad is the player number “21” in faded black marker. A Pirates team logo is on the front in yellow felt. The helmet shows evidence of old adhesive tape residue which we were told had Clemente’s name on it. This outstanding example shows excellent game-use with baseball related staining and scratches throughout.
