Babe Ruth was a coach with the Brooklyn Dodgers when the team played an exhibition game on July 13, 1938 against the Eastern League's Albany Senators. It was announced in advance that the 43-year-old Babe would play in the game and an overflow, record crowd of 11,724 fans poured into Hawkins Stadium. The Babe didn't disappoint. In his first at-bat, he cracked a long home run, which may have been the last recorded homer by the Sultan of Swat. He played five innings and signed hundreds of autographs, providing a moment in history that the local newspaper reported, "had thrilled the hearts of many a kid in this area." The scorecard from that game was signed by Ruth -- fittingly -- on an ad for The Plaza Grill on Broadway and Beaver St., in black ink and the signature rates a near 10. Amazingly, the excellent-condition scorecard was also signed at different times by fellow Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, and two of Ruth's Dodger teammates, HOFer KiKi Kuyler and Cookie Lavagetto, with Joe D and Teddy Ballgame in bright blue marker and also rating near 10s. The scorecard comes with a newspaper writeup of the game and also a copy of a scorecard page from Ruth's last official game with the Red Sox.
7-13-38 Babe Ruth Signed Scorecard from Final Season (w/Williams, DiMaggio, Kuyler, Lavagetto)
