When Branch Rickey went looking for the right man to integrate baseball, he found not one but two very special men. In fact, the color line could easily have been broken by Roy Campanella. A fixture behind the plate for nine seasons, Campy was a critical factor in five Dodger pennants and its world championship in 1955, winning three MVP awards (in 1951, 1953 and 1955). This striking 8" x 10" photo during those "Boys of Summer" days shows a robust, beaming Campy and two other Dodger players with two servicemen in attendance at Ebbets Field. Campanella signed this excellent condition photo taken by New York Post photographer Barney Stein, writing "best wishes" in black pen. The signature rates an 8.
