While finding Mark McGwire game-used items from recent years is a fairly easy task, it is significantly more difficult to find game-used McGwire items from earlier in his career. This Franklin batting glove was used by McGwire during the 1987 season, in which he set a still-standing record by hitting 49 home runs during his rookie season. The tremendous game use on the glove, including heavy pine tar on the palms. It is more than possible that McGwire used the glove to hit homers during his record-setting year. The glove can be dated to McGwire's rookie season because it is accompanied by the receipt from its original sale on December 1, 1987. McGwire signed the glove in blue Sharpie and the signature, which is vintage to the period of game use, comes with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity.
