"My name is John L Sullivan, and I can lick any son of a bitch alive". Such were the words of the last bareknuckle boxer to hold the Championship belt from 1882-1892. Known as the "Boston strong boy", Sullivan was the first great hero in American sports. These two circa 1890 cabinet cards both picture Sullivan and identify him on the front below the image. On the reverse of one of the cards is information regarding Sullivan and his career. This card is in very good condition with minor wear and some loss of material at the corners. The other is in good condition with more significant wear and some creasing. Both measure approximately 4" by 6-1/2", and shows evidence of having been mounted on the reverse.
