This original ribbon from 1938 Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament is emblematic of a weight-class winner in the tournament founded in 1923. The Golden Gloves found its greatest glory when it expanded to New York in the late 1920s and was sponsored by the New York Daily News. The red, white and blue ribbon measures 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" and has the words "Tournament of Champions." The precious little golden glove is attached to the bottom of the ribbon, with "Golden Gloves" etched on the thumb and "The News Welfare Ass'n. Inc, 1938" on the palm and fingers. At the top of the ribbon is a gold-bordered plate that reads "Official." This historical gemstone is in excellent condition.
