When Cy Young's Boston Red Sox won the first World Series in 1903, bringing victory to the upstart American League, National League owners refused to play a World Series in 1904. This pair of extraordinary near-century-old game programs represent each league's winner that season. The 5" x 8" Red Sox program from Huntington Avenue Grounds boasts the words "World's Champions" under a shot of a stern-looking manager Jimmy Collins. The 6" x 9" New York Giants program from the Polo Grounds features photos of manager John McGraw, Roger Bresnahan and Red Ames. Each program has a filled-in score sheet, with Christy Mathewson on the hill in the Giants game. Both programs are in very good to excellent condition.
