This haunting limited edition Leroy Nieman serigraph seems to have been created using Mickey Mantle's pain and suffering as its palette. Nieman depicts Mantle taking a huge cut at a pitch and missing. Mantle coils on the follow through, twisting his pain-wracked body into a knot and sending him into a grimace of agony. Nieman has captured the vulnerability behind the image of Mickey Mantle as a blond god without weakness, which was how most saw the Yankee idol before his sad post-career life told the real story of a tortured man. The vividly colored serigraph uses yellow, green and purple as its dominant colors. The image measures 33" x 33" on an overall 39" x 40" sheet and is numbered 48 of 350 serigraphs and signed by Nieman, whose signature is in the lower right hand corner. This serigraph is in near mint condition and comes with documentation from the publisher.
