The stamping on the barrel of this bat of Brett’s name with Yankee Stadium, rekindles immediately the great Yankee-Royal rivalry of the 1970s and 1980s. The great playoff confrontations with Goose Gossage generally ended with Brett taking Goose’s 98 mph fastball deep into the right field stands. The "Pine Tar Game" memorializes the sight of Brett exploding from the visitor's dugout on July 24, 1983, after home plate umpire Tim McClelland nullified a two run homer, again off Gossage, and called Brett out for using an illegal bat. His pine tar extended more than 17 inches up the handle of the bat. These are the images we remember of the 11 time All-Star, 1980 American League MVP and 1999 Hall of Fame inductee. This 1977 Hillerich & Bradsby model T-85 All Star Game Bat measures 34.5" and weighs 31 ounces and is uncracked and shows moderate game use. There is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. Brett’s blue Sharpie autograph rates a near ten.
