For all Yankee fanatics old enough to remember what the sky looked like through the perforations of the upper-deck facade and what a game looked like having to crane your neck around the blue pillars that obstructed views from the grandstand, this advertising piece from the mid-1970s will bring back golden memories quicker than a Whitey Ford fastball popping into Yogi Berra's mitt. The ad tied the reconstruction of the venerable Yankee Stadium into a promotional gimmick by Winston cigarettes and Korvettes department stores (another now-defunct Big Apple institution), offering the truly astonishing opportunity to acquire either a grandstand or a bleacher seat taken from the old Stadium during the 1974-1975 refurbishing for only $7.50 and five empty Winston "crush-proof" packs. While we don't know how many people smoked their lungs out to get a seat, we do know those seats are worth a whole lot more today than pocket change, and along with this very rare, excellent condition 15 1/2" x 20" framed copy of the "Get Your Yankee Stadium Seat" ad is just such a seat almost exactly like the one in the ad. In fact, the dark blue wood seat has the same number "16" across the top slat and boasts chipping and general wear that makes it worthy of the line in the ad that reads, "When Babe Ruth hit his 60th Home Run-- this seat was there!"
