The 1926 Yankees were pivotal in the franchise's fortunes. Coming off a seventh-place finish, the Yankees needed a big year in 26, particularly from its meal ticket, Babe Ruth, whose carousing and poor condition had enraged manager Miller Huggins the previous year. In a rarity for Yankee team photos from those years, Ruth and Gehrig are standing side by side, in the back row. The diminutive Huggins seems almost swallowed up by large Yankee players in the center of the second row, although in reality, no player ever dared cross him. The 8" x 9-1/2" photo is an original International Newsreel print, on the back of which is the news copy that came with it, including identification of all the players. The photo is in very good to excellent condition, with just a tiny bit of fraying at the edges and a one inch tear on the lower edge.
