The ubiquitous Babe was pictured in a casual setting in a newspaper supplement called Illustrated Current News which ran this one-page foldout on March 7, 1930. In a layout of various ballplayers over a caption reading "Baseball Practice in Full Swing," Ruth takes a cut. With the Babe mired in a contract dispute with the Yankees, another caption reads, "Unsigned stat engages in first practice." Other photos include Yankee players giving manager Bob Shawkey a ride in a wheel barrow and Cubs manager Joe McCarthy with owner William Wrigley. The page measures 12-1/2" x 19" and is in near-pristine condition, with two crisscrossing folds, and is mounted in a black frame.
