On October 15, 1931, famed sportswriter Fred Lieb led an all-star squad of major leaguers on a month-long tour of Hawaii and Japan. Lieb put together an eye-popping cast that included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Lefty Grove, Frank Frisch, Al Simmons, Rabbit Maranville, and Lefty O'Doul, and the team swept all 17 games. This cardboard box top features the illustrated images of Ruth and Gehrig and was apparently torn from a larger souvenir piece from the tour. Gehrig's face is at the top and Ruth's at the bottom separated by Japanese lettering and above a facsimile Ruth signature. Ruth's name also appears at the top left. Unfortunately for Lou Gehrig, the Japanese were unsure of the spelling of his name and his facsimile signature reads "Gaylick." The piece is in excellent condition.
