This award was presented to Joe DiMaggio by the American Academy of Sport in honor of his outstanding achievements in 1939. Comprised of 200 leaders in the sporting world, The Academy of Sport sponsored baseball clinics for youngsters at the New York World's Fair. In addition, each year it gave this prestigious award to the athlete chosen most worthy., What a list it had to choose from with insructors like Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Frank Frisch, Bob Feller, Bill Dickey, Connie Mack, Leo Durocher, and Joe Medwick. So it was especially rewarding for DiMaggio to take home this 4" in diameter gold-colored laurel with the Academy of Sport seal and a separate nameplate engraved "Joe DiMaggio -- 1939." The award and nameplate are in excellent condition with almost no tarnishing. It comes in a black box with a gold outer design. Along with this award comes the photo of Joe DiMaggio receiving it.
