In the summer in 1941, "The Streak" became a national obsession. The prospect of having Joe DiMaggio come to town to try to lengthen his hitting streak sent AL teams into a promotional frenzy. This poster was put out by the St. Louis Browns before Joe D. came to town for a July series at Sportsman's Park. In bold black lettering, it reads, "Sensational Joe DiMaggio will seek to hit safely in his 49th consecutive game, Thurs. nite, July 10." Those who attended saw DiMaggio get an infield hit his first time up. The 8-1/2" x 10-1/2" poster on brown paper has some damage on the left side, two crosswise fold marks and a small fold mark in the lower left corner, and a perforation in the top center.
