This rare jersey is an object for those fascinated with the Yankees, as it digs away the surface of Yogi's first few moments in Pinstripes well before becoming one the the game's best-ever catchers. The story begins in 1947 when a stocky little guy named Lawrence Peter Berra (already tagged with the sobriquet of Yogi for his unique if not entirely logical philosophies of life) came to the Bronx after a great year with the International League's Newark team. Berra came up as an outfielder and was given this jersey. The 1947 Yankee road flannel shirt has the "Wilson" label and size "44" tag in the neck. Below this is a white felt patch with "Berra" in blue chain stitch. Across the front is "New York" and on the back is number "44" both in blue felt. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the number change appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
