When Billy Martin came to the NY Yankees in 1950 at age 22, he had already honed his talents and left a trail of bloody noses in the sandlots around Berkeley, CA. One such proving ground was the American Legion games, in which he wore this striking blue and gold uniform consisting of a poncho-style jersey with a large Legion eagle on the left breast and the letters "F.O.E." on the back, and pants with a thin gold pinstripe running down each leg. The uniform has only a few mild stains. The lot is accompanied by a letter signed by Martin on Detroit Tigers stationary.
