The Yankees were so strong in the early 1960s that even third stringers like Johnny Blanchard were dangerous. Blanchard, who backed up Yogi Berra and Elston Howard behind the plate, hit .305 with 21 home runs on the 1961 team regarded by many as the best of all time. These battle-scarred Aire Guard shin guards worn by Blanchard in the early 1960s are autographed with his signature and number "38" in black marker on each of the orange knee plates, the signatures rating 8s. Blanchard's name is stamped in script letters on the white leather pad of each shin guard.
