The only thing missing from this 1979 NY Yankees 2-piece home uniform worn by then-manager Bob Lemon is the chain yanked so often by owner George Steinbrenner, who hired the former Hall of Fame pitcher three times as skipper and fired him three times. In 1979, Lemon began his first full season at the helm after arriving in mid-1978. His relaxed style took the club to its dramatic pennant and World Series victories. Lemon, who died in 2000, signed both the lower front of the knit jersey and left front leg of the pants in blue marker, the signatures rating 7s. In the neck of the jersey is a white patch with "Lemon 79 1" in black chain-stitch. On the left tail is the "Wilson" label and size tag "48." On the left breast is the "NY" logo and on back "21". In the waistband of the pants is the "Wilson" label and size "40". Next to this is a white patch with "Lemon 79 1 24" in blue chain-stitch for the year, set number and inseam. The uniform shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
