After becoming a regular in 1984, Mattingly established himself as one of the preeminent stars of the 1980s. In a career that lasted 11 years, winning a batting title in 1984 and being a nine-time gold glove winner, are only a couple of accolades that we can attribute to this amazing Yankee. In the neck of the jersey is a white label reading "Mattingly 87 2" done in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the year and set number, respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" exclusive label and below is the size tag, "42." On the left breast is the "NY" logo and on the back is the player number "23." Both the logo and the number are made of blue tackle twill. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
