A natural athlete blessed with tremendous power, Mathews was the premier third baseman of his era. He hit 190 home runs in his first five seasons, putting him far ahead of Ruth at age 25. A key member of the excellent Braves teams of the late 1950s, Mathews was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1978. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Wilson" label and size "42." Below this is the year "67" in black chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Astros" in script style letters made of black/orange/white embroidered stitch. On the back of the shirt is the player number "11" in black on orange felt. On the left sleeve is the Astros patch and on the lower right front is an autograph. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
