"Mr Cub" thrilled the fans on the north side of Chicago for 19 years with his tremendous ability and his endearing zest for life. His production offensively from the shortstop position had not been seen in the majors in forty years since the "Flying Dutchman" amazed fans everywhere. Banks became the Cubs everyday shortstop in 1954 and for the next 16 years averaged 31 home runs and 100 RBI a season. He was a 12-time All-Star with 512 career home runs. This dark blue helmet was made by "American Baseball Cap" of Media, Penna. An embroidered red "C" is on the front of the helmet with the player number "14" written in white paint. The leather band that circles the inside of the helmet is separated at the back and is beginning to show the wear of 30 years. There are two tags on the inside of the helmet. One is a size tag and the other is a "Pro Cap" tag. On the bill of the helmet is a crack that measures approx. 5 inches.
