Dolph Camilli was vital to the fortunes of the Brooklyn Dodgers for six seasons from 1938 to 1943. A power-hitting 1B, Camilli became a Dodger in a trade with the Phillies in 1938. His steady play and leadership was most evident in 1941 when the Bums set Brooklyn aglow by copping their first NL flag in 21 years, riding Camilli's league-leading 34 home runs and 120 RBIs in addition to a solid .285 average, numbers that earned him the NL MVP honors. Camilli was such a loyal Dodger that when the team traded him to the Giants in 1943, he quit the game, though he did come back for a brief stint with the Boston Red Sox in 1945. His son, Doug, later followed in his steps as a major leaguer. This Dodger home flannel jersey was worn by Camilli during his 1941 MVP campaign. Camilli signed it on the front in blue marker with his name and "M.V.P. 1941." The crisp, clear signature rates a solid eight. In the neck is "D. Camilli" in red chain stitch. Below this is the "Spalding" label and adjacent is the size tag "44". On the inside back tail is the year "41" also in red chain stitch. Across the front is "Dodgers" in script style letters and on the back is the player number "4", with both the name and number in blue felt. Camilli's autograph rates a strong 8. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
