Maury Wills was such a poor minor league player that Topps wouldn't even put him on a baseball card, but when the Dodgers banked on him in 1959 he repaid their confidence by becoming the best leadoff hitter in the game. The following season, he hit a career-high .302 in keying the team's championship run. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Rawlings" label which includes the size, "40." Below this is "Wills 63" which has been done in blue chain stitch. The number denotes the year. On the inside left front tail is the wash tag and adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 1 1963." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Los Angeles" in script-style letters which are made of blue felt. The player number "30" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the shirt. The numbers on the front are made of red felt and the numbers on the back are made of blue felt. Los Angeles on the front and the numbers on the back have been restored. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the above mentioned changes, appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
