Tough Texan Jerry Grote was the backbone of the New York Mets' NL pennant conquests in 1969 and 1973, catching every game of each season's LCS and World Series. Grote excelled behind the plate and in the latter WS against the Oakland A's, he set 3 fielding records. Grote, whom Lou Brock said was the toughest catcher to steal against, wore this Mets home knit jersey during the 1973 pennant winning season. In the neck is white patch with "42 73 15" in blue chain stitch for the size, year and player number. On the right tail is the "Rawlings" label and size "42". Across the front is "Mets" in script style letters. The number "15" is on both the left breast and on the back. All letters and numbers are made of blue on orange tackle twill. Both back numbers have been replaced. On the left sleeve is the Mets patch. The jersey shows good game-use and but for the replaced back numbers appears to have no alterations of any kind.
