Torre was an All-Star catcher in the 1960s and in 1971 moved to third base where he won the NL MVP award, leading the league with a .363 batting average and 137 RBI. As manager of the New York Yankees, he led the team to four World Championships and to an AL record of 114 wins in 1998. In the neck of the jersey is a white patch reading "44 76 9" which has been done in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the size, year and player number, respectively. On the lower right front tail is the "Rawlings" label with which includes the size, "44." Adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 1." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Mets" in script-style letters. The player number "9" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the jersey. The letters and numbers are made of blue on orange tackle twill. On the right sleeve is the "National League Centennial" patch. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
