On Opening Day 1985, Gary Carter, wearing a NY Met jersey for the first time, blasted a game-winning grand slam home run. Carter, who was traded to the Amazins after 11 seasons as a Montreal Expo during which he became the finest all-around catcher in the big leagues, helped lead the Mets to the promised land with his catching skills and bubbling spirit and was a key element in the 1986 championship season when he had 106 RBIs. The perennial All-Star and future Hall of Famer played five of his 19 big league years in Flushing, en route to setting the NL record by catching over 2,000 games. This lot is comprised of Carter's blue mesh batting practice jersey, Los Angeles Dodgers game used bat with tremendous use, chest protector, batting gloves and blue spikes worn during his last game as a Met in September 1989. Each glove and each shoe is autographed in blue marker, the two on the gloves rating 8s, the two on the shoes 7s. There is also a single signed ball with a grade-9 signature and an 8" x 10" photo of Carter in a Met uniform with a near-10-grade signature.
