The Anaheim Angels began as the Los Angeles Angels in 1961, marked by the "halo" that circled the team hats and batting helmets. Heavenly intervention may explain the Angels' rise from eighth to third in 1962, but reality explains the team's return to losing ways the next season. This fabulous Angels helmet worn during those first three years rekindles warm summers when hopes were raised by Leon "Daddy Wags" Wagner, Steve Bilko, Dean Chance (who won the CY Young award in 1963) and the one and only Bo Belinsky -- whose 1962 no-hitter was almost as impressive as his fling with actress Mamie Van Doren. The black and red helmet has a silver halo that is broken off in one spot and a felt "LA" logo.
