As an AL pitcher, Roger "The Rocket" Clemens had little use for this Toronto Blue Jay batting helmet he wore during the 1998 season. But it has meaning as vindication for a guy who was written off as a burned out Rocket by the Boston Red Sox before signing a $40 million deal with the Blue Jays in 1997 and going 21-7. In 1998 the rugged Texan went 20-6 with a 2.65 ERA and 271 Ks in 234 innings, winning the fifth of his record six career Cy Young Awards. The sure-fire future Hall of Famer who joined the Yankees in 1999 has led the league in ERA six times, in strikeouts and victories four times, and seems sure to reach the 300-win, 4,000-strikeout milestones in short order. The nicked-up, size-7 1/4, blue batting helmet has the Blue Jay logo on front in red, blue and white and has Clemens' number "21" on the back and "R.C. 21" handwritten on the back inside padding.
