For 17 consecutive seasons, from July 1, 1982 to September 20 1989, Cal Ripken Jr. was in the starting lineup of every Baltimore Orioles game. On September 6, 1995, at a bulging Camden Yards, Ripken surpassed Lou Gehrig's once-unsinkable record of 2,130 consecutive games, Ripken set a new standard for hard-hitting shortstops, but when his arm and range began to slip, he moved to third base and excelled there, running The Streak to 2,632 games before finally taking a blow on September 20, 1998. This Orioles road knit jersey worn by Ripken in 1998 has the "Russell athletics" label and size "48" on the left front tail above a white patch with "1998." Next to this is the "2" Extra Length" label. Across the front is "Orioles" in script style letters and on the back is a grey nameplate with "Ripken". The number "8" is on the left breast and on the back. All letters and numbers are of orange on black tackle twill. The jersey shows some game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
