Throughout the 1940s and 50s, George Kell was one of the games greatest players. He batted over .300 nine times with a league leading .343 in 1949. In addition, Kell led American league third basemen in fielding percentage seven times. This Cap was worn by Kell during the peak of his career and has been signed on the inside band "George Kell" in blue marker with a signature rating an 8. Also on the band is written "George Kell 1947". 1947 was a spectacular season for Kell as he hit .320 striking out only 15 times in 588 at bats. Remnants of the tags are evident and it appears as though they have worn away with use. From the Barry Halper collection.
