There is much irony and fascination in this Chuck Knoblauch fielder's glove from 1996, when his scrappy second baseman defensive skills positioned him to win the Gold Gloves in 1997 and 1998, his last year with the Minnesota Twins and first one with the New York Yankees. Then, to the bewilderment of many -- most of all Knoblauch -- a mental block arose that made it an adventure every time he would throw to first base, eventually forcing him to shift to leftfield this season. The AL Rookie of the Year in 1991, Knoblauch remains one of the game's best clutch hitters and base stealers, but his second base travails are symbolized by this Wilson glove, a Conform model that can tighten on one's hand with the turn of a button on the back. Knoblauch's name is stitched in gold on the thumb of the game-worn mitt.
