Tiant's father, Luis Tiant Sr., was one of Cuba's greatest pitchers. Luis Jr. was signed to his first contract for the 1959 Mexican League season. He was a renowned locker-room prankster but was serious on the mound, winning 20 games three times for Boston. In 1972 he captured his second ERA title. In the neck of the jersey is the "McAuliffe" label and below is the size tag, "43." On the front tail is the year tag "1975" and below is the wash tag. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Boston" and on the back is the player number "23." Both the name and number are made of red on blue tackle twill. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
