Signed as a shortstop off the Notre Dame campus in February 1959, Yastrzemski replaced Ted Williams in left field for the Red Sox in 1961 and followed him into the Hall of Fame in 1989. Although he won three batting titles, played in 18 All-Star games and was acknowledged as the finest defensive left fielder of his time, Yaz will be primarily remembered by Red Sox fans for his 1967 MVP season, when he helped bring the team into the World Series. He's the only American League player with both 3000 hits and 400 homers. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label which includes the size, "42." Below this is the year tag "83" in black chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Boston" and on the back is the player number "8." Both the name and number are made of blue tackle twill. On the back of the shirt is an autograph that rates an 8. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It comes with an additional letter of authenticity.
