These two colorful Hall of Famers added much to the baseball lexicon, such as "Ruthian" in describing prodigious home runs and "Stick it in his ear" and "Nice guys finish last." The Bambino and The Lip both helped establish baseball as an entertainment spectacle. The Babe is and will always be the sport's ultimate icon. Little known is the fact that Durocher was Ruth's Yankee teammate in 1928 and 1929, since he made his name as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals famed "Gas House Gang" in the 1930s and then as a manager for 35 years, winning a title in 1954 with the New York Giants - and receiving a season suspension in 1947 from the Brooklyn Dodgers for gambling. This rare vintage ONL Frick ball was signed by both legends, with The Babe's signature the centerpiece on the sweet spot, signed with a typical Ruthian flourish in blue ink. It rates a strong 8. Durocher's signature is in black ink on a side panel and is still legible and clear, rating a 6. The condition of the ball is excellent, with a few areas of dirt and wear that only contribute to the ball's character.
