For years the Washington Senators were "first in war, first in peace, and last in the American League," but not in 1924 and 1925, when the Senators were first in the American League. This remarkable find, a lightly toned OAL Johnson ball signed by 23 members of the Senators, is testament to the franchise's sole world championship in 1924 when they took down John McGraw's New York Giants in seven games. The Senators fielded three future Hall of Famers: Walter Johnson, Goose Goslin and player-manager Bucky Harris. Shortstop Roger Peckinpagh was the AL MVP in 1925. The signatures of those four men are clearly visible (Johnson's signature is clubhouse), and Harris signed on the sweet spot, "1924 World Champs" and "A.L.C. 1925 has been written on the sweet spot." All signatures are in black ink and while some are faded, most are readable and rate 6s and 7s.
