Shibe Park opened its gates on April 9, 1909. The first concrete and steel park in baseball, Shibe was a palace appropriate for Connie Mack's kingly Philadelphia A's, and one can only imagine the rush of seeing the team's dynasty years from these original Shibe seats. Shibe, which was also home to the Phillies, hosted the AL's first night game on May 16, 1939. After the glow of winning faded, so did Shibe. The last game was played there on October 1, 1970 and it was razed in 1976. These wooden red seats with their stately double-ribbon figural design survived to lend testament to the park's early glory. While the paint is chipped and age has taken a toll, it is a reminder of a golden time.
