Harry S. Truman was an unassuming, plain-spoken Midwesterner who was catapulted into the Presidency upon the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in May 1945. Though Truman was untested, he is now regarded as one of our best Presidents for his steely guidance of the country through World War II as well as ordering the atomic bomb dropped on Japan ending the War. For helping to create the United Nations and the Marshall Plan for war-torn Europe. Truman memorabilia is much coveted and rare, and this framed display of a Truman document from 1946, a typed signed letter from 1949 and a color illustration of Truman with the Capitol Building in the background, is a wonderful piece. The 20" x 27" document is a July 5, 1946 presidential order appointing Edmond D. Hanrahan as a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission. It has the white Presidential seal on the bottom left and on the bottom right is Truman's signature in black fountain pen, rating a near perfect 10. The letter, dated October 12, 1949 is Truman's reluctant acceptance of Hanrahan's resignation as SEC Chairman. The letters ends, "With every assurance of gratitude and appreciation for faithful public service, Very sincerely yours, Harry S. Truman" with the signature in black fountain pen and rating a near ten as well. The document, letter and picture are mounted against a white background and framed to an overall 28" x 37." All items are in excellent condition.
