Manfred von Richthofen, aka "The Red Baron, has been celebrated in books, songs and "Peanuts" comic strips. The WWI German ace nearly single-handedly dominated the skies over Europe, picking off over 80 allied aircraft in "dogfights" that made him a legend before he met his doom on April 18, 1918 when he was shot down by British gunners over Vaux sur Somme, France. This lock of The Baron's crew cut blonde hair was originally contained in a locket owned by von Richthofen's cousin. The hair is preserved in a transparent cover next to reproduction of a picture of The Baron that had been in the locket, and beneath a statement of authenticity by expert Charles Hamilton.
