Elvis Presley's trademarks were his sneering lip, swiveling hips and wild mane of hair slicked back with grease. This lock of The King's light brown hair (Elvis buffs will know that his black hair was a dye job done to toughen his image) has an intriguing history. It was snipped on March 3, 1958 during his famous "GI haircut" after being drafted into the army. Apparently, Elvis saved some of the shorn hair and presented it to talk show host Joe Franklin of "Memory Lane" fame as a memento. The lock of hair is contained in a transparent cover beside a photo of "the haircut" and the accompanying wire service caption, and above a short paragraph explaining the Franklin connection.
