The tragic and eerie final days of Marilyn Monroe's life are intertwined with the filming of "Something's Got To Give," a 20th Century Fox movie production that was thrown into chaos by the troubled screen siren and would never be completed after her death by an apparent suicide on August 5, 1962 at age 36. Monroe's ghostly presence and the rise and fall of her legendary life as America's favorite celluloid sex symbol are all over the pages of this blue paper-bound, 149-page script of the movie dated March 29, 1962. This was Marilyn's personal copy and the last of many versions of the script, the problems which are shown by the fact that it is divided into white and blue pages, with the blue ones marking extensive script revisions that were necessitated by Monroe's behavior. Although designed as a star vehicle for her, Monroe did not want to be in the movie but was contractually obligated to do it. Her frequent absences from the set exasperated her co-stars Dean Martin and Cyd Charisse as well as the director George Cukor, and she was fired only to be rehired later. The plot of the film rings now with irony, as it portrayed Monroe as a woman who was declared dead having been missing for years after a boating accident. The light-hearted fare seemed deadly prescient when Monroe turned up dead four months later. Although the studio thought of recasting her role, the movie was aborted, making it a Hollywood cult legend in itself. The script cover, which is marked "Final, Confidential", has the Fox logo at the bottom and the title and date on the cover and the spine. While there is minor creasing on the covers, the pages are in pristine condition. The script comes in a red-bound case with "Marilyn" embossed in gold on the cover.
