Alex Agase played linebacker and guard for Illinois from 1940-43, then again in '46 after spending two years in the military. This classic All-American sweater was awarded to Agase in 1946 after his selection by the All-American Board of Football. This item is rare, with two gold stars filled in dark yellow on the "All-America" patch, indicating that Agase was a two-time, first-team All-American, having also being chosen in '43. The red and yellow patch, with a football arching from the top, is sewn on the chest. The mostly tan, all-wool sweater has a "Catalina" label inside neck, two pockets and red and blue trimming around the bottom. It shows a few scattered areas of wear including a tiny hole above the left pocket, but its overall condition must be rated as excellent. The sweater comes with a letter of authenticity from Agase.
