The legend of Hugh "The King" McElhenny was born on the former Huskie All-American's first carry with the San Francisco 49ers in 1952. The swivel-hipped halfback took the pigskin and threaded through tacklers on a 40-yard TD gallop. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound McElhenny proved he deserved a throne when he copped Rookie of the Year honors and made the All-NFL team that rookie season. King Hughie would play in 6 Pro Bowls (winning game MVP honors in 1958) and in his 13 years with the 49ers, Vikings, Giants and Lions he racked up 11,375 yards, amassing over 5,200 rushing and over 3,200 as a receiver. Picture here is Hugh McElhenny's Hall of Fame ring. The size-12 silver ring boasts a deep blue center on which is the HOF logo of a player in a helmet. Around the center are engraved the words "Pro Football Hall of Fame." The left shank has the name "Hugh McElhenny" atop an engraving of a game scene and "1970." The right shank depicts the HOF building in Canton under the word "Halfback." The ring is well-worn and some of the letters around the crown have fused, but otherwise is in excellent condition and comes with a letter of authenticity from McElhenny.
