In spring training Jerry Grote knew it. He said "We are going to win it. We thought he was crazy nuts but it made sense." These were words uttered by Tom Seaver about his battery mate. The words made sense, because winning baseball is all about pitching. The 1969 Miracle Mets had the arms: Seaver, Koosman, Gentry, Ryan etal, but they had little else. It was only through the leadership, patience and guidance of "The Quiet Man," Gil Hodges, that the Mets were able to pull off one of the great miracle upsets of modern day sports. Perhaps, the best player not yet elected to the Hall of Fame, Hodges' qualifications as a manager should easily put him over the top as one of baseball's immortals. This 10K gold salesman's sample ring features a large zircon on a field of blue glass on the front of the ring. Around the face is the inscription "New York Mets World Champions 1969." On one side are the words "14 Hodges MGR," over the Mets logo. On the other side are the three flags "Eastern Division/National League/World Series," over an engraving of Shea Stadium, which is above the words "Mets vs. Orioles." The size 11 ring is in near-mint condtion.
