Jesse Lawrence Barnes was born on August 26, 1892, and began his Major League baseball career in 1915. The 23 year-old played for 13 seasons and ended his big league playing career in 1927. Jesse Barnes was a star pitcher, and had his best year in 1919, winning 25 games. In 1920, he nearly duplicated the prior season with 20 wins. He went on to win two World Series with the NY Giants and was a major contributor to the Giants post-season success. In four games pitched, he had two wins, 1.71 era, and 24 K's. He ended his playing career with 153 wins. This item is his original 1922 NY Giants World Championship ring from the Barnes family. The ring remained in the family's possession for over 70 years and we are proud to have the opportunity to offer this ring in our auction. This original 14K gold ring displays a brilliant diamond raised in the middle with embossed lettering on each side. The inscription on the one side reads "Giants, Worlds 1922" and the other side "Champions 1922". The inside band of the ring is engraved with his name "Jesse Barnes", which has worn over the years, but still visible. The ring shows general wear on the outside and appears resized to 10. Grading EX overall and known to be the earliest championship ring in existence. Includes a letter from the family, copies of photos including one of him wearing the ring and newspaper clippings.
